Natural Resources
The county covers an area of 1,203sqkm with 420,000mu of arable
land and 88,000mu of water area. The total water resources
reach 1.078 billion cubic meters. The types of soil are varied
and fine, fit for cultivation of rice, tea, fruits, oils,
cotton, hemp, mulberry and vegetables. The proved mineral
types total 32 with 85 mineral sites, and the reserves of
several minerals such as copper, iron and gold are the largest
in the province.
Human Resources
The population total 720,000 and labor force 370,000. There
are 30,000 professionals in different fields of whom 6,274
hold semi-senior and senior technical titles. The talents
market of the county bridges professionals with enterprises
all the year round. In general, large-size talent exchange
fair is held twice a year, attracting each time some 3,000
job-hunting college students. Every year, around 2,000 college
graduates return or come to Shaoxing to work. Besides, a large
number of young people from other regions come here for employment.

Market Resources
One of the most dynamic economic powerhouses in China, the
county is densely populated, and its well-off people has high
purchasing power, hence the huge potential for consumer market.
Here is located China Textile City, the largest textile trading
center in Asia with well-equipped services and dealing in
the richest range of fabrics. This market complex is divided
into four trading zones, nineteen specialized markets, and
occupies an area of 492,000sqm, the floorage totaling 605,000sqm.
There are altogether 13,500 business rooms, and about 10,000
varieties of cloths are traded here with average daily transaction
exceeding 60 million yuan and daily flow of people hitting
70,000. In addition, key complementary markets like talents
market, multi-modal and consignment transport market, banking
and insurance provide quality services.
Tourism Resources
A waterside county with landscapes typical of East China,
Shaoxing enjoys rich tourism resources and cultural heritages
with numerous scenic sites, and is crowned as ＾an unwalled
museum￣. The place is renowned for its water sceneries, stone
bridges, yellow wine, calligraphy and for nurturing celebrities.
There are one national-level tourist destination, eight county-level
scenic spots and a national forest park. Special tourism packages
are available such as tour of wine culture, stone culture,
tour of calligraphy, water town, ancient towns and Buddhist
culture.

Climate
Shaoxing county enjoys subtropical monsoonal climate with
four clear-cut seasons, mild temperature, plentiful precipitation
and abundant sunshine. The annual temperature averages 16.5
degrees centigrade, rainfall totals 1,397mm, frost-free period
lasts 237 days and relative humidity is 81%. Water Supply
The county teems with crisscrossing rivers and lakes, and
water resources total 1.078 billion cubic meters of which
surface water account for 996 million cubic meters. Class-A
drinking water runs through the city, development zones and
major towns and villages. The tap water discharging pressure
reaches 0.36mpa.
Electric Power Supply
The county¨s electricity comes from the East China Power Grid
locally managed by the ministry-owned Shaoxing Electric Power
Bureau. There are in the county 34 public substations of 35-500KV,
the total transforming capacity being 4.026 million KVA. Besides,
there are 13 local-run thermal power plants, the installed
capacity totaling 550,000KW. |
